Mentorship Programme

Overview

We introduce active mentoring from the third year at university as part of the process of supporting our Candidate Fellows to start thinking beyond just their studies and towards their future.

The Foundation is continually seeking individuals in Southern Africa who are willing to invest time and have an interest in promoting the growth of high-impact entrepreneurs. These individuals will walk alongside Candidate Fellows on their journey towards making a significant contribution.

How to Apply

You can apply to become an Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Mentor at any time during the year although active mentoring begins at the start of each new academic year. To apply click here or contact our Mentor Manager for more information.

Selection Criteria

Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Mentors need to display the following:

  • The ability to work with emerging young leaders, to share knowledge, experience and the skills necessary to enable future high-impact responsible entrepreneurs
  • The ability to intuitively meet the Candidate Fellow where they are at in their personal journey and connect with their goals and aspirations

Mentor Commitments

The Mentoring relationship begins during a Candidate Fellow’s third year at university and extends throughout their Fellowship. The commitment period starts in February and ends in November of each year. Mentors are expected to commit to a minimum of:

  • Monthly one-on-one interactions with their Candidate Fellow, which can be face to face or telephonic
  • An orientation and relationship building session at the beginning of the year
  • A midway evaluation session
  • A year-end event
